“Time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana.”
My game has slipped on the Wellness Wednesdays. Hard to believe it’s mid-December already and another term has concluded.
If you made it through, congratulations. If you’re not so sure, take time during whatever break you get to figure out how to get up and start again. Every breath a chance to begin again.
Holidays, like life, can be a mixed bag. Memories good and sad, increased chances to connect and also to misunderstand and be misunderstood by relatives and old friends, pressures and expectations. Stop and sort your priorities. If connection is top, reach out and make plans. If gifting is important, consider your values and those of the giftee. A donation to a favorite charity, an offer of help in their house, a sentimental token might mean more than something off of Amazon. Buying local supports our community not just financially but by keeping those sweet little shops open. Personally, one of my favorite presents is presence: experiences with people I love. A walk, a game, an adventure.
If holidays are hard for you, plan on how you will invest your thoughts and time. Gift yourself something you need: maybe it’s a new narrative or perspective. And consider reaching out to connect with others who might be feeling lonely, whether by volunteering at a shelter or food kitchen or by calling a friend.
See you on the other side, and be well.
