This Week in LBCC Athletics: Beaks Basketball Takes On Southwestern Oregon; Games Rescheduled Due to Weather

LBCC basketball competed in their second week of NWAC South play last week, with both the men’s and women’s teams taking on Southwestern Oregon on the road on January 10.

The LBCC women took the court first, outscoring Southwestern in every quarter in a 34-point rout. Brooklynn Walters and Hannah Berschauer tied for the team-lead in points with 15 each off the bench, while BettyAnn Wilson led the Beaks in rebounds with 11.

With a 68.9% shooting average and a 57.1% three point percentage, the Beaks cruised to a 90-56 victory Wednesday night. The women’s team now sits at 9-3 on the year with a 1-1 record in their conference.

The men’s team suffered a close loss later that evening, falling 71-65 to Southwestern. Linn-Benton finished the first half with a slim two-point lead, but was outscored 41-33 in the second, resulting in their first loss in NWAC South play this season.

T.J. Zimmermann led the Beaks with 25 points and nine rebounds, with LBCC actually having better marks than Southwestern in rebounds and both shooting and three point percentage. However, it wasn’t enough to capture the win as the Roadrunners dropped back to .500 on the season as well as in conference play.

Both LBCC basketball teams were scheduled to play more games over the weekend against Clark and Mt. Hood, as well as matchups against Clackamas on January 17. However, all the games were canceled as an ice storm rolled in late during the week. Per the LBCC Athletics website, the games were rescheduled to the following time slots:

(From Jan. 13) LBCC at Mt. Hood – Monday, January 29, 2024 at 5:00 / 7:00 p.m.

(From Jan. 17) LBCC. vs Clackamas – Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 2:00 / 4:00 p.m.
