Linn-Benton’s basketball teams gave fans a nice gift the week before Christmas, going undefeated in their three games last week.
On December 20, the Beaks men’s team survived a thriller against Blue Mountain, winning 65-64 at home. With six seconds left in the game, LB’s Liam Spencer increased the Beaks’ lead from two to four with a steal and a layup. Blue Mountain drained a late three-pointer afterwards, but there wasn’t enough time to complete the comeback, and the Beaks recorded their fifth win of the season. For the game, sophomore TJ Zimmermann led the Roadrunners in both points and rebounds with 16 and 12, respectively.
The next day, Linn-Benton hosted two games, each with free admission to celebrate the holidays. The women’s team took the court first, defeating Columbia Basin 69-61. Muriel Jones-Hoisington led the team with 17 points with Natalia McBride and Hallie Romig tied for the team-lead with eight rebounds each. The win leaves LB at 8-2 on the season as they enter league play.
The men’s team closed out the week of basketball, taking on Columbia Basin. It was another close matchup for the team, with the Beaks winning by three with a final score of 77-74. Once again, Zimmermann led the Beaks in points with 21 while Bennet Bos had a team-best seven rebounds. The game marks a third-straight victory for the team, which now sits at 6-3 on the season.
This week, the men’s team will play three games in the Clackamas Holiday Tournament. On December 28, they’ll play Edmonds, on the 29th, Highline, and the 30th, Green River. Their first game of the tournament will be at noon, while the last two will have 1 p.m. tip-offs. The women’s team won’t play again until January.
