LBCC’s Pi Day was Delicious

When you hear “Pi Day,” you imagine pumpkin, chocolate cream, apple, strawberry/rhubarb, and lemon meringue. Well, you would partially be right, but the truth of the matter is that the “pi” that the LBCC math department celebrates every March 14 is all about a math equation.

Why on that day?

It’s an inside joke among people who love math. Have you figured it out yet? March is the third month combined with the 14th day. Pi’s first eight digits are 3.1415926… and if you wait until 1:59:26 p.m.… You see it now.

The celebration was held at both the Learning Center on the main campus’ Willamette Hall’s second floor and the Benton Center’s Learning Center at the same time. Attendees whooped it up when the timer went off – which was not easy with a mouth full of chocolate pie and whipped cream.

Everyone went back to voting on their favorite math joke and math pi-ku’s. While all this celebrating was happening there were students finishing final projects of the term and/or studying for their final exams. How they stayed focused is a testimony to the character of the type of students that come to this fine community college.

Remember that the math department does this every year. Hope to see you next year in pi T-shirts like these fine instructors are wearing (found on Amazon).
