LBCC Food Drive Hopes to Put Thanksgiving Meals on 150 Tables

As the spooky season winds down, election season comes to a close and the holidays approach, the LBCC community is coming together to help put Thanksgiving meals on local tables.

This year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive hopes to provide food boxes to as many as 150 LBCC households, each filled with enough food to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for a family of four.

The drive is a collaborative effort between the Community Cupboard Mobile Food Pantry, Student Leadership Council, LBCC’s Basic Needs department and the Office of Impact and Engagement, along with the LBCC Foundation, which is facilitating financial donations.

Between groceries, housing and other everyday expenses, the cost of putting together a Thanksgiving meal can add another financial strain for students, staff and faculty alike. Food insecurity continues to affect members of the LBCC community, and the Thanksgiving Food Drive is one way students, staff and community partners come together to lend a hand.

There are plenty of ways to get involved, whether donating a few pantry staples, making a financial contribution or volunteering to help get boxes ready for distribution.

Donations can be dropped off at the mobile food pantry trailer on LBCC’s Albany campus, located at the CTE Annex behind the Industrial Arts building. Collection dates are Thursday, Nov. 5; Monday, Nov 9; and Thursday, Nov 12, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The LBCC Foundation is also collecting financial donations to support the food drive. According to organizers, electronic donations have no processing fees, meaning every dollar goes toward supporting the food drive. Cash and check donations are also welcome through the Foundation.

For anyone looking to lend a hand in person, volunteers are needed to help prepare, pack and distribute the boxes. Preparation and setup will take place Friday, Nov 20. times TBD with packing and distribution scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Food boxes are available to current LBCC employees and students enrolled in at least one credit or noncredit course during Fall 2026. Each household may request one box, with pickup scheduled for Saturday, Nov 21, between noon and 3 p.m.

Requests must be submitted by Monday, Nov 16, although organizers note that registration may close earlier if they reach capacity. The number of boxes available will depend on donations and other resources.

While Thanksgiving is the focus of the drive, the effort also reflects the importance of looking out for one another throughout the year. With food insecurity remaining an ongoing issue, efforts like the newly launched Community Cupboard Mobile Food Pantry offer another way for the college community to help one another.

Students and staff interested in volunteering, donating or requesting a Thanksgiving food box can find more information through the college’s Thanksgiving Food Drive announcement.
