Linn-Benton baseball is up to a 14-game winning streak after four victories to start the month of April.

In the first game of a home doubleheader against 6-13 Chemeketa on April 4, the Beaks won 6-2 after a strong 4-0 start in the first two innings. Sophomore utility player Aidan Dougherty led the team with three hits off of five at-bats, while sophomore pitcher Camden Stephens earned the win.

In the second game, the Beaks won again, increasing their margin of victory with an 8-1 final score. On offense, it was a balanced effort punctuated by Linn-Benton taking advantage of mistakes by the Storm. Sophomores Cameron Ordway, Jordan Hockett, and Ethan Buckley recorded two runs each. Sophomore pitcher Ever Lamm earned the win, allowing six hits in just as many innings played.

The Beaks’ second doubleheader of the week was also against Chemeketa – this time, on the road. Being away from their home field led to closer games for Linn-Benton, but the results were still the same. On April 6, the Beaks defeated the Storm in the first game 3-2 in a matchup that went to 13 innings. Ordway recorded the winning run for the Beaks on an unearned score. Sophomore pitcher Russell Holly earned the win.

In the final game of the week, Linn-Benton completed the sweep against the Storm, defeating Chemeketa 4-1. Dougherty was the star once again, with three hits off three at-bats, scoring one run. The Beaks jumped out to a 4-0 lead while Chemeketa didn’t get onto the scoreboard until the top of the seventh. Freshman pitcher Jake Von Lubken earned the win after playing the entire game, allowing just three hits.

After their wins last week, the Beaks now sit at 22-6 on the regular season with an 18-2 conference record, good enough for the top spot in the NWAC South. Next week, they’ll face the south’s second-seeded team, 23-6 Umpqua, in an away doubleheader on April 11 and a home doubleheader on the 14th. The first game of each day will begin at 1 p.m.
