A lot has happened since my last WW letter, in life and in our nation. There’s stories brewing in me that are not yet ripe for telling. They’ll come in their time.
I’d prefer to avoid talking about politics here. Reality: politics and policies have direct impact on us. Whether you agree or disagree with the aims, the rollout has caused confusion and worry in public and private sectors. I’m concerned for our DACA and first generation students. Most of us are just two or three generations removed from immigrants who were looking for a better future. I’m concerned for our students who are queer, of color, living with disabilities. As an older American, I’m sad to see basic human rights we worked hard to achieve begin to disappear, and protections to our privacy, health care, jobs and the environment threatened or erased.
If you or someone you love is anxious or affected by the fast changing times, you’re not alone. Try not to panic in advance for things that haven’t happened yet. Look for trustworthy and fact-based sources of information. Cut back on doom-scrolling and social media. Take care of your mental health! In overwhelm, we can feel powerless and helpless. Reach out for support if you need it.
