The LBCC women’s basketball team played two games this week at the Lane NWAC Crossover tournament on December 15 and 16.
The Beaks dropped their game on the first day of the tournament, falling 68-50 to Walla Walla on the 15th. Walla Walla’s 46% field goal percentage loomed over LB’s 27.1%, one of the biggest factors in the loss. The Beaks were led by freshman guard BettyAnn Wilson in both points and rebounds, with 14 and nine, respectively. After the loss, the Beaks dropped to 6-2 on the season.
However, the team ended their tournament run with a win the following day, defeating Whatcom handily with a score of 72-57. Freshman Natalia McBride led the Beaks with 16 points, with three other Roadrunners hitting double digits. Wilson once again led the team in rebounds with 12 on the day.
After the week, the Beaks now sit at 7-2 on the season, still yet to start NWAC South play. They’ll face 9-1 Columbia Basin at home on December 21 at 3 p.m. in their lone game this week. After that, the women’s team won’t take the court again until January.
As for the men’s team, they didn’t have any games last week but will play twice this week. On December 20, the Beaks face 1-9 Blue Mountain at home at 7:30 p.m. The two teams already played once this year, with LB winning 95-70. On the 21st, the men will face 8-4 Columbia Basin, also at home, at 5 p.m.
