LB wins NWAC East Regional, advances to Elite 8 volleyball championship

ONTARIO, Oregon — The Linn-Benton volleyball team overcame a slow first set to earn a tough 3-1 victory over the regional hosts Treasure Valley Community College on Sunday, Nov. 16, to advance to the NWAC Championship Elite 8 as the number one seed out of the East Regional.

The Chukars (28-4, 13-1 NWAC East) started off hot, winning the first set 25-16. The Roadrunners (24-6, 13-3 NWAC South) responded with a 25-18 victory in the second set to even the match at one set apiece.

Linn-Benton began to show their resilience with a strong third set effort, winning 25-16 to take a 2-1 sets lead. With the score tied 10-10 in the fourth set, the Roadrunners scored six points in a row to take a commanding lead and go on to win the fourth set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

With the victory, Linn-Benton secured the number one seed from the east region and advanced to the NWAC Championship Elite 8, held this year in Pasco, Washington. The Roadrunners will take on the number two seed from the west regional on Friday, Nov. 21. First serve for that match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
