LBCC students get 10 days to decide who the next student president will be.
In an email sent out to students on Monday, the Linn-Benton Student Leadership Council linked its 2025 ballot to decide the next SLC president and vice president, as well as collect feedback on what the SLC should focus on and what challenges students are currently facing.
The form closes on Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.
Running for president are LBCC students Lileanna Johnson and Julia Schmeck.
Johnson has served as an SLC intern the last two terms, and is running in support of facilitating school clubs on LB campuses and increasing communication and engagement for students.
“I want to be as involved as I can in making LBCC the best it can be for our students,” reads Johnson’s bio. “The mission of the past SLC and its president is something I believe in. I want to carry on the legacy of getting involved, supporting our peers, and keeping LBCC an inclusive environment.”
Schmeck is running in support of student involvement and community, as well as making sure students and faculty are heard. Another focus is bringing “creativity, organization, and compassion” to the SLC.
Schmeck’s bio reads: “I want to be involved in conversations about tuition, funding, and overall student welfare,” adding, “Whether that’s finding and offering resources, contributing to school boards or collaborating on events, We are better together!”
For vice president, LBCC student Phoebe Denbo is running unopposed.
Denbo, a current SLC intern, highlights “student engagement and growth, specifically highlighting equity and inclusion,” as well as expanding student outreach as her goals. She also writes about a willingness to collaborate with other SLC members, LBCC administration, and outside organizations to support students.
“One of my goals would first and foremost be just maintaining the current initiatives brought forth by the SLC and then using what’s been built as a stepping stone to further the needs of the student body,” reads Denbo’s bio. “I think if students feel like they have a support system and are a part of a community, they are more likely to succeed.”
Students can check their LBCC emails to vote in the election. While the president and vice president are elected by students, the rest of the SLC is selected via an interview process.
