LB Women’s, Men’s Basketball Team Look for Rebound After Falling to Clackamas

PORTLAND, Oregon – While it is shaping up to be an incredible season for Linn-Benton basketball, both the men’s and women’s basketball teams hit a stumbling block on the road at Clackamas Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
The men’s team kept it competitive in the first half, tying it at 45, before falling behind in the second half as the contest ended with a score of 97-89 in favor of the Cougars. This brought the Men’s Basketball team to a record of 8-10, though still sporting a winning record of 3-2 in NWAC conference play.
While home-field advantage proved too much to overcome for the Roadrunners, several players played excellent basketball, including Tyson Parker, who scored 27 points while connecting on 9 of 13 shot attempts and making 7 of 8 free throws. Teammate Ayden Foster collected 11 rebounds, and TJ Zimmermann contributed 24 points on 9 of 20 shooting and making 5 of 6 free throws.
The difference for the men’s team appears to have been partly in blocked shots, of which Clackamas recorded 8 and Linn-Benton recorded 3. The Cougars also nabbed 11 steals to the Roadrunners’ 4.
The Women’s Basketball team fell to the Cougars as well, with Clackamas prevailing 76-67. This dropped the Beaks’ sterling record to 14-2, including a brilliant 4-1 in NWAC conference play. The Roadrunners’ performance was not without some excellent play from the Beaks, however, as Brooklynn Hankwitz scored 24 points on 8 of 14 shooting with 8 made free throws on 9 attempts, in addition to 14 rebounds. Teammate Ruby Krebs added 12 points and made 3 out of 5 three-pointers.
For the women’s team, turnovers were the biggest difference in the contest, with the Roadrunners committing 18 turnovers to the Cougars’ 7. This allowed the Cougars to attempt 70 field goals to the Roadrunners’ 53, where the final differential in the contest was nine points.
