Roadrunners Pull Off Comeback against Olympic

BREMERTON, Wash. – The Linn-Benton Women’s Basketball team defeated Olympic Community College 56-49 on Friday, Dec. 9.
The Roadrunners improved to 6-1 on the year, while the Rangers fell to 5-3 on the year.
FIRST HALF
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first quarter, thanks to a balanced scoring attack from the starting five. A buzzer beating three that came from beyond halfcourt by Rangers Missy May Valdez, ended the first quarter 15-8 in favor of the beaks.
In the second quarter, the Rangers found more of their footing, pulling the game back within one,at 20-19, halfway through the quarter. The Roadrunners answered back with a 9-0 run, started by a 15-foot jump shot by Muriel Jones-Hoisington. The Roadrunners entered halftime with a 29-26 lead.
In the third quarter, the Rangers came out firing, going on a 14-0 run to start the second half. The Roadrunners Cienna Hartle extinguished the Rangers run, with two straight 3-Point makes. Heading into the fourth quarter the Rangers led 45-41.
In the fourth quarter, the Roadrunners found themselves down 6, with seven minutes left to play. A jumpshot by Brooklynn Hankwitz, would start what ended as a 15-2 run by the beaks. In the end the Roadrunners crawl back from down 11 in the second half, to pull out a gritty 56-49 win.
THE BOX SCORE
Hankwitz led the Roadrunners in scoring with 10 points, shooting 5-11 from the field. 8 of Hankwitz’s points came in the fourth quarter. Muriel Jones-Hoisington finished with 9 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. The Rangers Alannah Northam led all scorers with 14 points, shooting 4-15 from the field(26%) and 6-11 from the free-throw line.
