Kyle Emile Visits LB: Free Intelligent Conversation Event Friday, Oct. 21

Kyle Emile, founder and executive director of Free Intelligent Conversation (FreeIC), will be speaking and facilitating an activity on LBCC’s main campus this Friday, October 21, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. When you see the student leaders who will be holding signs that read “Free Intelligent Conversation,” you’ll know you’re in the right place. This event is open to the public.

The Civil Discourse Program, Student Leadership Council, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion have teamed up to co-host the event with Emile, with the intention of promoting an opportunity for people to engage in meaningful conversations, and meet people along the way.

At LBCC, Emile will give a speech for 100-plus high school students from the area who are coming to campus for Manufacturing Day, where they will explore the campus, the Career Technical Education programs that could take them directly into the workforce, and the high-tech facilities of the college.

So, What is FreeIC?

Free Intelligent Conversation is a non-profit organization that specializes in encouraging engaging conversation between strangers in public places with the intent of providing an environment to have meaningful and civil discussions. Such initiatives can now be seen in different places all over the world.

Danae Fouts, SLC’s President, shared her perspective on the event: “I think people are better when we have conversations with each other and get to know other perspectives and points of view. So FreeIC is really beneficial in helping students to broaden their horizons and make new connections.”

During his visit, Kyle Emile will also participate in another public event where local leaders will also be participating and meeting this Thursday, October 20, from 5-6 p.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church, located at 2540 Applegate Street in Philomath.
