December Awareness Reminder

December brings awareness to AIDS/HIV, a life-threatening STDs. There are nearly 38 million people worldwide who are suffering from these diseases in 2020. Symptoms include:

  • Abdomen pain
  • Dry cough
  • Pain when swallowing
  • Fatigue, fever, loss of appetite, night sweats, sweating
  • Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting
  • Soreness and swelling in the groin area
  • Ulcers or white tongue

This is a friendly reminder to remember to get tested regularly if you are sexually active. You can get tested via your medical provider, you can find a free testing center near you, or call the Oregon HIV/STD Hotline at (800) 777-2437.

Currently there is no cure for AIDS/HIV like there are with other STDs, but there is medication to bring down the symptoms and reduce the contagiousness. And with early treatment, HIV can often be stopped from turning into AIDS. Stop the spread by using protection while having sexual intercourse and being honest with your partners.

Additionally, December carries with it awareness for many other things, including National Human Rights and National Drunk and Drugged Prevention. Find them all here.
