ALBANY — In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and LBCC’s focus on remote learning for Fall 2020, The Commuter is launching a weekly online email newsletter beginning Thursday, Sept. 24.

Keeping students and staff updated on campus news, information and other topics of interest, this email newsletter will partly substitute for the weekly newspaper as the printed edition is temporarily on hold due to the quiet on campus.

To sign up for the newsletter, simply go to The Commuter’s website, lbcommuter.com, where readers will find a quick signup on the homepage.

The Commuter has been dedicated to being the voice of students and a student resource for Linn-Benton Community College for generations. While the pandemic has prompted the college to offer many of its classes online, The Commuter has done the same, emphasizing its website — lbcommuter.com — and producing a PDF version for those who prefer a more traditional reading experience. The Commuter is hopeful for the quick resumption of “normal” campus activities, including distributing a print edition of the newspaper.

In order to continue being the voice of LBCC and it’s students, the newsletter will feature articles that can be found on our weekly PDF editions as well as stand-alone pieces oriented towards our newsletter subscribers. All articles from The Commuter can be found on lbcommuter.com.

In addition to launching our newsletter, The Commuter is looking for a new Student Voice Editor. This position will be involved in editing and writing articles about LBCC. The responsibilities of this position include interviewing members of our college’s leadership and Student Leadership Council, being a voice for LBCC’s students, and serving as a student resource for information regarding events and what goes on at LBCC.

For more information about the The Commuter newsletter as well as the Student Voice Editor position, contact Commuter Editor-in-Chief Katie Littlefield at katherine.littlefield.5238@mail.linnbenton.edu or Adviser Rob Priewe at priewer@linnbenton.edu
