It’s About To Get Boring: Incoming editor-in-chief for the 2017-18 year speaks about her goals

As of today, these are officially my monkeys and my circus. God help us all.

When I walked into the newspaper office, I had no intention of staying at the paper long-term. My friend in the office had told me they needed help with editing, so I came in to help until they could find a new copy editor.

Three terms later, however, I am still here, and now as the paper’s Editor-in-Chief. I am tremendously grateful to Emily Goodykoontz and the rest of the newspaper staff for helping me realize my true potential and helping me grow as a person, even the staff members who are no longer at LBCC.

I was really lonely when I started at LBCC: my best friend had just moved to Grants Pass and was attending Rogue Community College. When I was given an opportunity to work at the newspaper, I jumped on it; anxious to make friends and get established at the college.

Despite being a mathematics major, I was welcomed. As such, I want everyone on campus to feel welcome in our office. Everybody can write, and everyone has at least one story to tell. If you have an idea or a story, come tell us: we are always looking for new talent, even if you only want to publish one paper and then part ways. We don’t mind if what you write isn’t in English: not all of our population speaks English or has English as a first language, so an English-only newspaper doesn’t fairly or accurately represent our population.

Most of all, I want people to give us their feedback: be it through a letter to the editor, an email, or by coming into the office. This is your paper as well, and your feedback helps us see what else is going on around campus and how we can improve.

I am honored to have been chosen to represent LBCC. This is an awesome school full of amazing people. I have awesome teammates at the newspaper, but I would love to work with even more people from around LBCC.
