Election Day 2016

Election Day 2016

Welcome to Election Day 2016 and the Commuter’s election coverage! We’ll be curating news and results here throughout the day. We’ll update this post about every three hours with new updates until polls start closing on the East Coast (5pm PST), at which time we’ll start updating with results hourly. The newest updates will always be at the top of this page.

Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more, and feel free to hit us up on Twitter, Facebook and in the comments here with your thoughts.

Update: 11:00pm

Polls have closed and the AP has called Pennsylvania for Donald Trump, so barring major news, it’s looking very much like we can expect to see a President Donald Trump. We’re signing off for the night (unless there’s a big update).

Update: 6:10pm

Results and news are coming in fast and furious now, and you can find them all over the web and TV. We’re watching Politico, FiveThirtyEight, @AP and NPR nationally, and OPB and the Democrat Herald locally.

Keep an eye on our Twitter for updates.

Update: 4:16pm

Polling places on the East Coast are beginning to close, and projections are now being made. NPR has “Donald Trump wins Indiana (11 electoral votes) | Donald Trump wins Kentucky (8 electoral votes) | Hillary Clinton wins Vermont (3 electoral votes),” via AP Projections. We may start hearing about Florida pretty soon, too.

Update: 1:20pm

The big story of the last couple of hours has been a lawsuit filed by the Trump campaign in Nevada, stemming from polls being open past the usual hours on Friday, an early voting day. Election law states that if a person is in line to vote when the polls close, they must be allowed to vote, but the Trump suit alleged that people had been allowed to line up and vote after closing. Buzzfeed News has a good article about it, and Deadspin has a video of the judge in the case making her judgement.

Update: 10:15am
