LVBV Wins Again: Roadrunners defeat Clackamas

The Roadrunners improved their already impressive 2016 season by picking up a victory Wednesday at home against Clackamas, winning three sets to zero.

“We will need to execute with good ball control and follow our game plan with a varied attack,” said Head Coach Jayme Frazier prior to the match.

With this win the Linn-Benton volleyball team improved to 8-0 in league play and a 33-0 record overall.

The Roadrunners started off methodically in the first set, with the early parts of the set being fairly close. However, the team finished the set on an 11-4 run that was highlighted by kills from sophomore Chase Bohman. Bohman, who was just named Northwest Athletic Conference Under Armour Player of the Week played a huge role in the game, finishing with 14 kills overall and a couple aces as well.

Set two started off with the Roadrunners down 2-5 at the start, but then going on an incredible 23-7 run to finish the set 25-12. The team was able to finish off the match with a final 25-15 set, fighting off a late push by Clackamas.

As the season inches closer towards the playoffs, the Roadrunners won’t let this undefeated season leave them complacent.

“We’re focusing on finishing league strong; that will help prepare us for playoffs because we’re getting better in the gym every day,” said freshman setter Montanna Gubrud. Gubrud had 38 assists Wednesday, and has helped Linn-Benton’s volleyball team reach fourth in the division in total assists with 546.

“We don’t take any time off, no matter our record,” said Gubrud. “We’re always getting better, critiquing even the littlest things.”

Linn-Benton’s volleyball team will travel to Chemeketa for a match on Friday, Oct. 21. Chemeketa currently sits at third overall in the Southern region of the NWAC with a record of 6-2, and should prove to be quite the challenge.

“This game will be tough considering that every team is getting better each week,” said libero Alyvia Sams.

Next, LBCC will visit Mt. Hood on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The next home match is set for Friday, Oct. 28, against Clark at 6:30 p.m. The home match is also the annual “Dig Pink” night, which is a night benefiting breast cancer research.
