BREAKING: Devin Nunes steps away from investigation into Russian interference

Devin Nunes (R-Ca.), chairman of the Intelligence Committee, announced Thursday, April 6, that he would step aside from the ongoing investigation into alleged efforts by the Russian government to undermine the 2016 general election.

Nunes’ announcement comes amidst ethics concerns following revelations that he withheld information from committee members and shared that information with the White House before approaching committee members.

The House Committee on Ethics released a statement on Thursday morning stating he was under investigation for possible “unauthorized disclosures of classified information,” before Nunes made his announcement.

Although Nunes stepped aside, he did issue comments on the complaints filed against him, referring to them as “entirely false and politically motivated.”

Nunes will be replaced by Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) and Rep. Michael Conaway (R-Tx.)
