Best Breakfast in Corvallis

After hearing friends and co-workers rave about it, I decided to see what all the fuss over Sharon’s Café was about. I found it at 1894 S.W. Third St. — in a south Corvallis strip mall, nestled cozily between Circle K and the ABG Gun Shop and quickly discovered that if greasy-spoon-home-cookin-diner-style breakfast is what you are hoping for, Sharon’s has you covered.

When I arrived, I was skeptical (to say the least) but went ahead and opened the door.

Biscuits and gravy

At a glance:

Two things caught my eye right away. Sharon’s was FULL, and someone has a thing for wolves and owls. The walls inside are decorated with wolf and owl swag.

Despite the crowd, our wait wasn’t too long.

Our waitress was smiling and friendly, and seemed to be familiar with some of the other patrons. Except for a smattering of ever-changing college students, Sharon’s is clearly home to a local crowd. I only saw two waitresses; they were quick, happy and doing an awesome job.

(Our waitress pointed out Sharon, the owner, who also works there.)

The menu was full of breakfast classics and a few meals of their own design, including some with “all-you-can-eat” pancakes. Sharon’s also offers many lunch choices, but we were there too early to even consider it.

Like most people, I love omelets and pancakes, but my favorite breakfast–the one I judge by–is biscuits and gravy. It was on the menu, so that’s what I ordered.

The portions at Sharon’s are huge.

When my order arrived, piping hot white sausage gravy and soft warm biscuits covered the entire dinner plate. I couldn’t have been happier. (The other half of my breakfast, the bacon and eggs, were served on a separate plate.) My friend ordered the farmer’s skillet, which included all-you-can-eat pancakes.

Ordering more wasn’t even considered. After trying some of her hash browns, though, I can say that I’ll be ordering them next time, even if it’s as a side.

Sharon’s Café offers daily specials, milk shakes and a 10 percent student discount (with valid ID). It’s a great place to meet friends or to grab a meal with your family, as they have several tables that can accommodate larger parties.

Sadly, Sharon’s Café is only open from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily

They have already expanded once, and on a weekend you may have to wait for a table, but the wait is worth it. My friend and I ate for $20 and change, which was not much to pay for a good breakfast at a down home, old-fashioned diner.

It’s been a long time coming, but my days of suffering through substandard biscuits and gravy are over! Who would have thought I had a family owned and operated restaurant right in my backyard.
